learning new things right?

Since Christi blew the bell curve today, it is a good time for this post.  I love the pictures that Dave does at night with long exposures and since this is a challenge to try new things, I decided that yesterday was the day to give it a go.  While not as good as the amazing Dave would do, I do not think it is too bad for a first attempt.  I might have to try this again some time before the challenge ends because I like how night photography comes out.  This particular shot was a 25 second exposure that allowed a little bit of blue sky in the background that you could not see with the naked eye.

Of course I had to use one of Kara’s cameras in order to have a long exposure time and I must say that I have enjoyed playing with the DSLR.  While DSLRs do not take better pictures than other cameras, they do make it easier to get a quality shot.  (Sending out praise to Mom, Dad, Alison and Emily for their amazing stuff taken on less expensive equipment.  I do not mean to only praise them though because the rest of you are VERY impressive as well but they are the only ones of us that have not used the “fancier” cameras at least once.)  Terrific job to all for this little experience.  Everyone in the challenge has had some great shots which have been taken on anything from a camera phone to professional equipment.  I would love for you all to get to play with Kara’s camera equipment like I do because I am curious to know how your images would come out.  But you can’t – at least until November 1.  Keep up the good work Family.

Beautiful! I’m too tired to go to the effort to download the shot to check out all of the exif info, so I’ll just ask. Did you use manual or let the camera pick the exposure time? If it’s the camera, then it does a much better job than my camera does. If it was you, then you do a much better job than I do.

Wow! This is incredible….I am guessing that this was full-on night time. I have got to play more this month. Dave showed me some things the other day while we were in Midland so I need to play with some of that info before I forget it…

Dave – it was manual but don’t judge what you see here since it is significantly different from the actual image. The image was actually a little underexposed. It’s funny because I was going to edit the pic to bring out the color of the sky and brighten it a little. All of a sudden the editing program did something and I don’t know what it was. I had a bullseye type cursor so I just clicked to make it go away and it changed the colors to as you see them. I yelled “what happened” and then decided to save it before I undid what it had done since I loved the colors so much. So don’t ask me how the image ended up this way because it was purely an accident.
