I’ve always loved the trees not only in this yard but on this whole block. They’re starting to turn now, and the leaves will have a ways to fall. Years ago, I’d visit one of my hospice patients who had lived on this block since she was a little girl. It’s about half a mile from the river here in town. She remembered when these trees were all short enough that they could watch the river’s Fourth of July fireworks across the neighborhood’s rooftops.
