I noticed that God made the sky especially blue today. I’m enjoying this beautiful autumn morning.

This year the trees at Blue House have held onto their leaves far longer than I expected. I’m really glad; the color is glorious right now. This was taken on Wednesday.

Okey doke, David. Here’s the cow at your request.
We got to make a day trip to Cloudcroft, New Mexico for my job (long story) last year. Here’s my favorite picture from that trip: Mountain Cow 2010
We got to go again this year. Upper Carr Canyon is one of our favorite spots for fall color. Nothing there at this Lincoln National Forest recreation site but a small parking lot, a hiking trail, and lots and lots of gorgeous trees.
Apparently humanfolk aren’t the only ones who enjoy a jaunt on public land. Right before we left Upper Carr, I spotted something moving in the trees about 100 yards away.
A longer look told me it was a cow. And Bessie was trotting our way.
She hedged only a little when she saw us, but her stride never broke…
…And then she lumbered on up the hiking trail and disappeared into the trees.
Before we left the parking lot a few minutes later, a pickup pulling a small livestock trailer passed us. Methinks Bessie’s “the-hills-are-alive” moment got cut short.

Two pots of vinca sit by each of our two doors. They’ve been troopers all summer, and I’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Happy little pumpkin was excited to go on a trip with us.
Now, hold still…
Good pumpkin.

Last year this tree was tracked by photo once a week. I liked seeing the progress of its color, so here we go again. There’s more yellow visible in person than you can see here.

Blue House is a great place to take a laptop and work for an hour or so. I love starting off my week there, so I and my mocha-addicted brain were sad to see that they were closed today for maintenance. These trees drop their leaves fairly early every year. I was afraid I’d miss them if I didn’t take some pictures now. From the porch I was happily snapping away when the owner came out to see what I was up to. I guess he decided I wasn’t too menacing. =)

A simmering pot of soup on the stove is one of the great things about fall and winter. Here, the beginnings of chicken and wild rice soup…crafted by candlelight, of course. =) (Kara, thanks for the food/photo inspiration.)
